Recently I have seen many new products (such as jump soles) which 'claim' to help players drastically improve their vertical leap. Sure these might add one or two inches to your vertical over a period time, but I'm a firm believer that hard work and proper training is the best way to quickly add inches to your vertical jump. I'm sure if your into basketball you have heard the term 'pylometrics'. Well if you haven't heard or done pylometrics before you are defiantly missing out, because it is definitely the quickest way to increase your vertical leap. Pylometrics in short is pretty much just exercises which help to further develop the speed of our muscles. Here are a short list of pylometric exercises for the lower body;
Jump Rope – Stand on your tippy toes and skip as fast as u can for 30 seconds. Then skip on your toes but this time only on one foot and alternate feet after 30 seconds. As you slowly get better extend the time of the sets.
Tuck Jumps – Jump up as high as you can, bringing your knees to your chest and as soon as you land immediately jump up again.
Depth Jumps – Stand on a box (steady surface), step off and land on two feet. Immediately jump up as high as you can bringing your hands over your head. As you become better start increasing the size of the box or steady surface you are jumping off.
These are the pylometric exercise that I believe are the most efficient and if you are serious about developing a kick ass vertical leap this is where you should start. Thanks
