Are you a looking for a quick way to improve your off-the-dribble
game? Do you want the fastest way to beat your defender, get to the
hoop, and make a play?
This post is going to be short and to the point. No complicated
drills, nothing fancy. Just a simple tip that will make you twice
more effective with the ball.
Ok, so when you play one-on-one basketball, or even 2-on-2 or
3-on-3, you have a lot of room to operate on the court and a lot of
time. You can dribble almost as much as you want...
But, 5-on-5 basketball is MUCH different. Not only is the floor
crowded, but you have 4 other teammates that are just going to
stand around and watch you if you dribble too much.
So the 1st step in improving your off-the-dribble game is to ...
stop dribbling as much! As simple as it sounds, this tip is very
valuable, and you'll see why in a minute.
Try this simple drill with a friend:
- You need 2 players, one on offense and one on defense.
- The player on offense has the ball at the top of the key.
- The offensive player has 3 dribbles to get off a shot. This means
that on the 4th dribble, its a turnover and the player on defense
gets the ball.
The importance of this drill lies in the fact that you only have 3
dribbles to get off a shot! This means that your moves have to be
quicker, better and more effective.
You don't have all the time in the world and you lots of moves you can
do...remember, in this drill, you HAVE to get off a shot within 3
dribbles.
We guarantee that if you do this drill with a friend just one time
for a half hour, your off-the-dribble game will improve...
And in 5-on-5 basketball, you'll be a much better player, because
you won't waste time on the court or dribble too much.
